Inclusive Book Drive
BACK TO SCHOOL DIVERSITY BOOK DRIVE
to benefit the students at
ISSAQUAH VALLEY ELEMENTARY
We are working with the school librarian at Issaquah Valley Elementary to add diverse represenation and “banned books” to their collection.

Diverse books are important because they reflect the wide range of experiences, cultures, identities, history and voices that make up our world. They help all readers see themselves (mirrors) in stories—affirming their value and identity—and also gives a peek (windows) into lives different from their own, building empathy and understanding. Representation matters because when children see characters who look like them, speak like them, or share their background, it shows them that they belong, they are not alone and that their stories matter.
Books will be collected at the September 6, 2025 Community Meeting, or there is a shipping address attached to the registry.
Support local bookstores while supporting the cause!
Our librarian contact has curated a gift registry at bookshop.org, where you can shop online while benefiting a local bookstore. Visit the most wanted book list and gift registry here. Another online marketplace that supports local bookstores is abebooks.com
To shop locally, any of these local bookstores would be happy to help you purchase or order a book from the book list, either in person or at the phone numbers listed.
