Spread Information, not Panic

If you see something on social media – “ICE is coming to…” Stop before you share!

Check the source. Not everyone on the internet is trying to be helpful, and even a post from a friend or acquaintance may be accidentally spreading misinformation meant to sow chaos, anger, and fear. Verify the original source, and make sure it is reliable.

Ask yourself if the information is helpful. For example, Seattle is a very big city. If no date/time/neighborhood is mentioned, it’s not really helpful to share a post that “ICE is raiding Seattle RIGHT NOW!”

If social media is the source, look for details like the date and time of the activity, the street name and description of officials seen, and pictures and videos with timestamps. If you are the source, before reporting activity on social media, try to determine the agency the officers are from (logos or names on uniforms or vehicles). Determine if people are being questioned or detained. If you feel safe, you can ask them why they are there.

Reliable sources of Information

If you have more money than time, either of these organizations would gladly welcome your donations as well.
