Remembering Bill Ramos, Upcoming events, Issaquah School Board candidates needed

Remembering Senator Bill Ramos

There are no words to express the loss of our beloved friend and advocate, LD5 Senator Bill Ramos, who passed away suddenly over the weekend. Our hearts are in solidarity with his children and his wife Sarah Perry, District 3 King County Councilmember.

Bill was a warm and generous person. He served his community over many years as a public servant, city council member, state representative, and state senator. He attended many of our events and meetings, and was always patient to explain his views with those who agreed with him and those who didn’t. Indivisible WA-8th will miss him as both our Senator and as our friend.

Please register for upcoming events

Thank you to everyone who came to our rapid-response sign-wave in support of Kilmar Abrego Garcia and other immigrants wrongfully trafficked to prison camps in El Salvador without full legal proceedings. This is not “deportation” where undocumented immigrants are sent back to live free in the country where they came from. This is sentencing immigrants to lifetime detention in a slave camp, with no hearing and no apparent evidence that they were ever gang members or terrorists.

As with many of our recent events, turnout exceeded expectations… which is a bit of a problem for our upcoming indoor events. Please RSVP so that we can limit attendance in accordance with building capacity policies.

We are hoping that new and revived chapters in our area will help relieve some of the pressure on our meeting spaces in the coming months, but for now it’s a little crowded…

Run for office, or help find a candidate for Issaquah School Board

There are two seats open on the Issaquah School Board this year.

If you or a progressive education advocate you know might be interested in running, directors Matt Coyne and A.J. Taylor will host a School Board Candidate Workshop. The session is at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23 at the District Administration Building, 5150 220th Ave. S.E., Issaquah. Taylor and Coyne will talk about policy governance, the role of board directors, time commitments and more.

To run for School Board, candidates must:

  • Live in District 2 or District 4
  • Be a citizen of the United States
  • Be a registered voter in Washington state
