No Kings Day – Gratitude and Next Steps

Our NO KINGS event was powerful! An amazing outpouring of community members – perhaps 5,000 strong – came together in Issaquah to sign wave, march, and rally. It was peaceful, proud, and patriotic.
June 14 was a day of joyful defiance and shared commitment to our democracy and our Constitution. This is what true democracy feels like. In America, we have NO KINGS!
Thank you to our speakers for their inspirational words – Judge Anthony Wartnik (retired), James Webster (Pride Across the Bridge), Natalie Higashiyama and Karen Amaya (Tavon Center), and Elizabeth Maupin (SEIU 775).
And thank you to all the volunteers who stepped forward in so many ways including our photographers and drone operator, and our safety team. And, a huge shout out to our Rallies & Protest team who made it all happen!
A special note of gratitude: Toward the end of our rally, a man suddenly collapsed to the ground. An impromptu and knowledgeable team of rally goers took immediate action to begin working on him. Their actions likely saved the man’s life according to the cardiologist who treated him at the hospital. Indivisible Washington’s 8th District wants to extend our deepest gratitude to the team of citizens, police officers, firefighters, and Emergency Medical Service personnel who worked to save a life.

For those who have facebook accounts, there is also drone footage here.
Turn your Rally Energy into Action!
- Our local Rallies/Protest Team has created this set of after-rally actions. Choose your key issue(s) and take action!
- The national organizers also have a set of after-rally actions, and if you’re reading this early enough, there is a national a post-rally mass call at 5pm on Monday, June 16th.

Update on Greyly and Lexander
Thank you to everyone who called Rep Schrier last week about the Sammamish couple who have been illegally detained by ICE.
As of this writing, they are still in Northwest Detention Center.
Rep. Schrier’s staff says their “casework team is working on this.” No details. Calls should continue to her office, stressing the seriousness of the situation and urging her to work for the couple’s release.
Sen Cantwell’s staff quickly began taking specific actions to get involved, and has updated IWA8 and an advocate who is working with the couple. Calls should go to Cantwell’s staff, urging her to continue to work to get the couple’s release, and to thank her staff for acting so quickly.
Call scripts are in TAN. Please share the TAN link with your Issaquah/Sammamish area neighbors as well. You do not need to create a TAN account to take action!

Stop the Cuts
Work on the train wreck of a budget continues. Because of Chuck Schumer’s lack of courage on cloture, the Republicans now only need a simple majority rather than a filibuster-proof majority to pass their destructive agenda. They want to get it done in the next two weeks so that Trump can sign it for the 4th of July. Let’s ruin this plan like we ruined his birthday!
Because our Senators are likely no-votes, your best impact may be reaching out to constituents of more vulnerable Republicans to help them make their voices heard.
