Press on!

The truth shall set you free; but first it shall make you angry.” – Robert Green Ingersoll

Well, it’s been a fairly dispiriting week, but one that has exposed the absence within the Republican Party of any semblance of principle.  Concern for the welfare of everyday Americans?  For rural America?  For rational trade policies?  For fiscal responsibility?  For checks and balances?  For education?  For the rule of law?  All out the window.  All cast aside and replaced with craven homage to a megalomaniacal cult leader.  All embodied in One Big Ugly Bill.

But you know what?  The American people slowly but surely are paying attention to what is happening, and they don’t like it.  And it’s because of folks like you.  Indivisibles around the country filled over 2,800 phonebank shifts, made almost 900,000 calls, mobilized congressional district office visits, rallied in increasing numbers at Hands Off! and No Kings! Events, and did so much more! Ultimately, we are in a struggle for the hearts and minds of the American people.  Recent polling indicates that a large majority of Americans who closely follow current events share our views; support for the current regime’s policies is higher only among our less attentive fellow citizens.

Our job, then – yours, mine, ours – is to get more people to pay attention to what is happening.  We do this both through group action (sign-waves, rallies, phone and text banking, social media campaigns) and our individual efforts (things as simple as discussions with relatives, friends and neighbors, and Indivisible’s Talk to a Friend Project).

As we celebrate this day of American independence, we extend a heartfelt thanks to all of you for everything you do as part of this effort.  We’ll keep up the good work together – because it is good work!

As House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said as he concluded his record-breaking 8-hour and 44-minute speech on the House floor in opposition to the Big Ugly Bill, quoting Dr. Martin Luther King, “We’re going to press on – ‘till victory is won!”
