John Lewis Day, Blue State Defiance, Event Reminders

Good Trouble and other events this week
We’ve got a lot of great events this week – We’re commemorating the death of Congressman John Lewis with a documentary viewing about his life. At a time when some are trying to censor and whitewash our history, keeping stories like John Lewis’s alive is resistance.
Neighboring chapters Indivisible Eastside and Indivisible Maple Valley have created protest opportunities as well. The Indivisible Eastside event in Issaquah can be combined with the movie, if you have time for two events!
Also this week, Indivisible National is rolling out their One Million Rising training, and Leah and Ezra will continue their weekly What’s the Plan? zoom calls as well.

As noted in the newest Indivisible Guide, government power in America can be exerted at many different levels, not just the Federal level.
We live in a blue state, where our Democratic governor, mayor, and lawmakers have the power to stop secret police tactics like abductions by masked ICE agents. Indivisible’s Blue State Defiance Toolkit helps identify whom to contact and what to call for. Use the Toolkit to contact our state and local Democratic officials to insist upon action to curb masked ICE agents.
Exerting state and local power works! For example, state attorneys general have been critical in restoring federal funding for health research.

Talk with a Friend
To rebuild a democratic, open society, winning elections will be critical. And, guess what: Ballots for the upcoming 2025 primary election will be mailed out this week! Research has shown that a one-on-one discussion with a friend is at least twice as effective as other methods of voter outreach. So, we’ve started our own Talk With A Friend Project.

News Boost Postcarding
We’re partnering with Progressive Turnout Project (the largest voter outreach organization in the country) to provide factual and useful news headlines to Dem-leaning voters in Virginia, a swing state where two important elections will be held later this year. We want to counter disinformation and make sure they learn how harmful the Trump/GOP agenda is for most Americans – and encourage them to vote.
