Community meeting, One Million Rising, August Primary, and thank you to everyone who made our Summer Carnival a success!

Indivisible WA8 Community Meeting
This Saturday, August 2nd

We hope you can join us for our August Community Meeting this Saturday, with our special guest, state Rep. Zach Hall from the 5th LD. We’ll share information and experiences of the recent statewide Washington Indivisible Network Blue State Defiance Convening in Tacoma, talk about Indivisible National’s One Million Rising program and more. Registration is not required, but check here for location and time of our Community Meeting!

Indivisible and One Million Rising

By now, you’ve most likely heard about the 3.5% Rule and how mass participation in non-violent civil resistance can build momentum against – and defeat – an authoritarian government. So what does this mean for us as Indivisibles? And how can you help us exceed 3.5% of the population in broad-based, active involvement to build and sustain pressure?

Indivisible National has launched a national effort – One Million Rising – to train one million people to resist authoritarianism – together. Through a series of trainings and local gatherings, we’ll build the strategy, skills and people power needed to stop Trump and his enablers. This is how we get organized. This is how we win.

If you missed the launch of the first session, The Movement & Your Mission, we hope you will watch it. Session 1 grounds us in the stakes of this moment, explains why we are in a moment of “authoritarian breakthrough” and the role you have in a winning strategy to fight back.

Sessions 2 and 3 are scheduled for Wednesday, July 30th and August 13th. These sessions, How To Make It Happen and What Now?, pull it together for us, and help us begin taking action. Be sure to sign up so we’re all ready to do everything we can – together – to resist and defeat the Trump regime and MAGA extremists!  And, watch for more information in our IWA8 newsletters about next steps and the support we will give one another as we start taking action together.

One More Week to Return Your Primary Ballot

Primary ballots are due next Tuesday, August 5th! If you haven’t filled out your ballot yet, there’s still time!

It’s hard to get much information about candidates in odd-year elections. Wondering where you should turn? Looking at endorsements on candidate websites is helpful, even in a non-partisan race. Using a trusted source like the Progressive Voters Guide is always recommended, too.

Want to help Get Out The Vote but can’t knock on doors? King County Dems is putting together a text bank to activate voters. Please reach out to KC Dems Chair, Beth Bazley, at chair@kcdems.org for more information.

Summer Carnival Thank Yous!

Political work can be emotionally and mentally demanding, making self-care essential for sustainability and well-being. It’s not a luxury but a necessity for those engaged in activism and advocacy!

On Sunday, July 27, Indivisible WA8 hosted an “Indivisigather” Carnival – a chance for like-minded, hardworking members and their families to gather and be refueled to continue the good work.  Thank you to all who attended and to the Team that created such a fun event!  We look forward to offering more community events such as these moving forward.

Talk with a Friend

To rebuild a democratic, open society, winning elections will be critical.  And, guess what:  Ballots for the upcoming 2025 primary election were just mailed out!  Research has shown that a one-on-one discussion with a friend is at least twice as effective as other methods of voter outreach.  So, we’ve started our own Talk With A Friend Project.

News Boost Postcarding

We’re partnering with Progressive Turnout Project (the largest voter outreach organization in the country) to provide factual and useful news headlines to Dem-leaning voters in Virginia, a swing state where two important elections will be held later this year.   We want to counter disinformation and make sure they learn how harmful the Trump/GOP agenda is for most Americans – and encourage them to vote.
