Democracy is Action

On Election Night, we saw the fruits of countless people and grassroots groups including our own, taking action – through protests and rallies, attending candidate forums and events, talking to neighbors, talking to voters, writing postcards, voting and checking in to be sure friends cast their own ballots. From local races to the most-watched contests across our country, We the People lodged a sharp rebuke against the Trump regime.
Studies have shown the connection between peaceful protests and election outcomes. To paraphrase American historian, Heather Cox Richardson, grassroots movements around the country informed people what’s truly going on in our government, and ordinary people stepped up to engage and “carry the weight of democracy”. Because, to quote Louis Brandeis (look him up!), “The most important political office is that of the private citizen.”
Remember this feeling. We can – and will – feel this again – but only if we engage and bring more people with us. There’s room for many kinds of action to peacefully bring about the change in 2026 that our country desperately needs. Because in America, We Have No Kings, and Democracy is Action.
When Helping Is Hurting

Our hearts are breaking to report that once again, masked men have taken away members of our community – two immigrant women – in Issaquah. When we hear of this happening in our backyard, it makes us feel especially helpless and we all want to react and take action.
However, we need to remember how important it is to follow the expertise of our local immigrant support organizations and follow their lead to make sure we know how we can truly help and when “helping” might actually be hurting.
Please check out our new website page that outlines both WHAT TO DO and WHAT NOT TO DO if you believe you are seeing a ICE activity.
Banners over Issaquah Veteran’s Day Action

Join us on Veterans Day, this Tuesday, November 11, from 4:00 – 5:00pm, on the I-90 Exit 15 overpass bridge, at WA SR 900 and 17th Ave NW in Issaquah as we join veterans across the nation in outrage with the administration’s steamrolling of our Constitution and the rule of law. U.S. veterans take their oath to the Constitution very seriously.
With heavy traffic on both the freeway and on the surface streets, this is a high impact event. We ask that people bringing signs focus on support for veterans.
Veterans and non-veterans alike are welcome! Visit this link for more information. We ask that people bringing signs focus on support for veterans.
Calendar
Double check your events this week! Several weekly sign-waving events in the area have been moved to Tuesday in support of the Veteran’s Day call to action. Preregistering is the best way to be informed of any changes in plans.
Indivisible WA-8 will have a Brewed Awakening on Thursday morning this week, and be sure to save the date for Winterfest December 4th.
