It’s Working!

Let’s Keep Doing What We’re Doing!
As part of our Community meetings, we always take time to note that good things are happening. It may not always seem like it, but they are.
We are seeing judges asserting that the Trump regime is overstepping their powers, elections that are not just going our way but doing so by double digit margins, how Minnesota communities are coming together to stand up for their rights, Democrats in Congress are finally putting up a fight to stop ICE from their egregious behaviors and, here in Sammamish, over 700 Skyline and Eastlake Catholic students walked out of their schools last week and organize to say ICE OUT.
Every one of us makes a difference, and every action we take makes a difference. We just need to keep going and invite our friends, families and neighbors to join us. Bit by bit, we are making the arc of the moral universe bend towards justice.

We have until February 13th to get Congress to put an end to ICE and CBP’s brutality
Right now all federal agencies are funded through the end of September, except the DHS. DHS is temporarily funded through February 13th only because Democrats are hearing our demands for new restrictions for ICE and Border Patrol in light of their lawless actions.
Any funding bill needs to clear 60 votes in the Senate. So Republicans must negotiate with Democrats by Feb 13th on ironclad restrictions to stop the violence.
Tell our Senators to demand the following restrictions:
- Not one penny more moves to ICE or Border Patrol.
- Pulls ICE and Border Patrol out of Minneapolis and the rest of our communities.
- Stops ICE or Border Patrol enforcement at designated ‘sensitive locations’ such as houses of worship, day cares, and hospitals.
- Prohibits ICE and Border Patrol from targeting people based on their race, language or accent, place of employment, or location at the time of the apprehension.
- Ends the administration’s unlawful practice of arresting people without a warrant, and entering homes without a judicial warrant.
- Agents must be un-masked.

Support the Initiative Integrity Act (WA Senate Bill 5973)
Washingtonians should be able to trust that our ballot initiative process is transparent and focused on solving real problems. Which is why it’s so damaging to our democracy when wealthy interests, like California hedge fund manager Brian Heywood, buy their way onto our ballot using deceptive tactics.
People like Heywood and his dark money group abuse the system – incentivizing signature gatherers to use misleading and aggressive tactics by paying them per-signature. Then they double down by filing dozens of duplicate initiatives in an effort to scam the state into giving them a ballot title meant to mislead or confuse voters.
The Initiative Integrity Act will prohibit signature gatherers from being paid per-signature which is already law in states like Oregon, Arizona, Montana, and Florida, where signature gathering and citizen initiatives continue to operate successfully.
Encourage state lawmakers to defend Washington against those that want to take advantage of the initiative process.

February Meeting Wrap-up
We had a great crowd attend our February meeting including over 20 people who joined us for the first time!
Thank you to WA State Insurance Commissioner, Patty Kuderer, and 41st LD State Representative, Janice Zahn, for bringing a wealth of knowledge and information to our meeting. We also talked about our No Kings III planning, had some terrific breakout group discussions about tactical ways to accomplish our IndWA8 2026 goals and more. Here’s a link to the slide deck.
Join us for our next meeting on Saturday, March 14 from 10-12pm.
If you are new or new-ish to Indivisible WA8, you are invited to join us at 9:30am, before the community meeting begins, for a “Newer Member Welcome & Intro to Indivisible” gathering where we’ll get to know one another and answer your questions.
And, plan to join us for our regular Saturday Sign Waving @Pickering Barn from 12:30-1:30pm after the meeting.
