The resistance against authoritarianism continues to build
Senate Democrats held the line, and DHS is now shut down until lawmakers reach an agreement on an appropriations bill. American Olympians are speaking out against the Trump Regime while J.D. Vance is getting boo’ed everywhere he goes. Tom Homan announced this week that “Operation Surge” in Minnesota is over, and ICE agents will be leaving the state.
In WA-8, students continue to walk out in protest against ICE, people continue to show up in the cold and rain for our weekly protest at Pickering Barn, and many important bills are making their way through the state House and Senate as our short legislative session crosses the halfway point.
With all the positives, there are still heavy negatives. Wired released an article this week detailing ICE’s expansion into cities across the U.S, including Tukwila and Spokane. Pam Bondi justified the Trump regime’s involvement in the Epstein Files by reminding everyone that the Dow is up, and Congress passed the SAVE America Act, a bill designed to further restrict the voting rights of women and POC voters across the country.
There is a lot going on, and we know it can be hard to know where to focus your attention, so here are some ways you can join in the action this week.

NO ICE in Tuwila – Email the Sabey Corporation now.
On February 10th, Wired reported that ICE is exploring leasing space in Sabey Corporation’s Tukwila offices.
Sabey is a privately owned real estate development and data center operator, and there are no city or state regulations that would keep them from collaborating with ICE. We need to let Sabey know that working with ICE on any level is unacceptable.
Email Joe Sabey, the Chief Commercial Officer, and Clete Casper, the Director of Real Estate to remind them that their first company value is “Do the right thing,” and that doing business with DHS or ICE is the opposite of that.

DHS Shutdown – How you can help Democrats win the fight against more ICE funding.
The government is in a partial shutdown after Democrats held the line on Friday against Republicans and refused to pass an appropriations bill that included additional funding for DHS/ICE/CBP with no reforms to address ICE’s behavior and brutality.
Democrats put forth a list of commonsense and popular reforms for ICE that Republicans refused to consider. Democrats also proposed a budget that included funding for all departments except ICE, as talks on reforms continue. But Republicans also rejected that, believing the optics of a partial shutdown, which includes FEMA, TSA, and the Coast Guard, look better for them.
Supermajorities of Americans think ICE and Border Patrol are out of control and want Congress to do something about it. Democrats are aligned with the public. Republicans hold the unpopular position — and keeping the heat on them is how we win this fight.
We’re going to make Republicans own this shutdown and all of ICE and Border Patrol’s abuses. They walked away from the negotiating table. They rejected massively popular reforms. They demanded more money for an unaccountable secret police force, and they’re willing to punish the public with flight delays and other disruptions to get their way.
That’s the message we need every American to hear, and with your help, we’re going to build a public backlash that is so strong that Republicans have no choice but to back down

Washington is home. We belong here.
Working people build Washington. Whether we’re picking apples in the Yakima Valley, fishing on the coast, milling lumber in Aberdeen, raising a family in Tacoma, or running small businesses in Seattle, we’ve earned the right to feel safe and respected in the place we call home.
But, just like in LA & Chicago, the Trump Administration has promised to keep terrorizing cities across America via increased ICE tactical units, mass raids, and deploying the National Guard, including right here in Washington State.
We are preparing for a variety of scenarios across our state in the event that they escalate their efforts to turn our government into a weapon against our people.

Rapid Response and Constitutional Observer Training
If you’re wondering if being a Constitutional observer is the same as being part of a Rapid Response team, it’s not. Here’s a great way to think of both.
Rapid response is like learning to be an EMT for ICE raids. You volunteer to go where the problem is.
Constitutional observation is like learning CPR — You’re not signing up to be on call, but you know what to do if you find yourself in that situation.

Join this 90-minute training from States at the Core on effectively protecting your neighborhoods from federal enforcement incursions. ICE Watch and other rapid-response tactics are key strategies used by people across the country to protect their communities from aggressive activity by federal law enforcement agencies like ICE and Border Patrol.
Whether or not you are part of an established community response network, this training will share important skills for building neighborhood resilience, documenting ICE activity, and supporting neighbors. In addition to covering the basics of ICE Watch, we will discuss new analyses of ICE operations, rapid-response tactics, and safety guidance.

Eyes on ICE: Document and Record – ACLU & No Kings
On Saturday, January 24th, federal agents horrifically shot and killed yet another person after brutally beating him in front of witnesses. That is the 34th person who has died at ICE’s hands in the past year. Enough is enough. Exercising our constitutional right to document and record ICE and federal agents is more important than ever.
This call will give you the tools to exercise your rights in a moment when federal agents are terrorizing our communities and using excessive force.
