Defend, Organize, Lead & Lift up, Y’all!

Last week, we saw the passing of an American who inspired with her music, her philanthropy, and her moral clarity. Dolly Parton showed us the power of using our voice to champion the values of acceptance and making life better for others.

In the words of Rebecca Solnit, “Dolly is nowhere and everywhere and it’s up to everyone now to be the Dolly they want to see in the world.”

WA Attorney General Nick Brown, coalition states’ AGs, and numerous democracy defender organizations around the country are fighting to protect our right to vote. It’s up to all of us to do our part in this all important election-protection work and be the Dolly we want to see in the world.

  • Be a Trusted Messenger. Don’t let friends succumb to defeatist thinking or giving up on voting. Help them see that it’s by voting, by peacefully “storming the ballot box” and peacefully “storming the polls”, that we win.
  • Reach out to WA state friends and family. Encourage 16- and 17-year-olds to sign up as Future Voters and be automatically registered to vote when they become eligible. Share Washington state voting dates & deadlines and the new Washington state Voter Portal for registration, ballot management and ballot box locations
  • Reach out to friends and family around the country. Democracy Bonus Points for talking with your people in important swing states like Alabama, Alaska, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. ElectionInnovation.org has a state-by-state breakdown about early voting (whether in-person at an early voting center or by mail) as do Vote.org and Vote411.org.
