Newsletter – Thank yous, upcoming protests, and safety info

Thank you to Rep. My-Linh Thai

We had a great September meeting on Saturday with our special guest, State Rep. My-Linh Thai (D-41). We so appreciate her taking the time to share her expertise and concerns for the most marginalized in our communities as well as her steadfast insistence that we hold both her and her colleagues accountable. We also had good idea sharing about how to make sure our No Kings 2 event will be a huge success and great team updates.

Also thanks to everyone who helped make our Back to School Inclusive Book Drive an amazing success!! Over 100 books were brought to the meeting and the librarian at Issaquah Valley Elementary is so excited to be able to make them available to the kids there.

The registry list on bookshop.org will be left up for another month or so for folks who want to donate but haven’t had the chance yet. Online orders can be shipped directly to the library.

No Kings 2 – Coming October 18th – Save the date!

Another national mass mobilization has been scheduled for October 18th.

Banners over Issaquah

We had a great showing for our first Banners Over Issaquah Overpass Action last Thursday on the I-90 Exit 15 Pedestrian Overpass! We had a great crowd – including one person that saw us from the highway and then came to join us!! Plenty of room for more folks to join in the fun waving at cars on the highway as they honk their support or bring your own sign to wave towards the surface street side of the overpass!

Protest Safety Training TONIGHT Monday, September 8th at 6:00 at the Library Service Center

As we continue to fight against the Trump regime and everything it stands for, we expect to have more and larger protests and rallies. In order to ensure that these are non-violent and safe events, it’s important to increase our understanding of de-escalation tactics, the deliberate actions and strategies taken to reduce tension and diffuse conflict.

Even if you aren’t an “official” safety marshal, the knowledge gained from safety and de-escalation training can help keep you and others at an event safe. Please join our Safety Committee for their next training this Monday at 6:00.

The mobilize event with full details is here, but registration is not required. Feel free to just show up!
