Ready… Set… VOTE!
Also, thank you to everyone who attended Good Trouble events last week!

Be sure to vote in the August primary
August Primary Election ballots were mailed out this week, so be sure to check your mailbox, fill out your ballot, and pop it back in the mail or into a ballot box ASAP.
Why does voting early matter? Returning your ballot quickly means candidates don’t need to spend time knocking on your door or do other outreach to remind you to vote. Instead, they can focus on voters who are likely to vote for them but who are less likely to cast their ballot in August, when turnout typically is lower.
It’s hard to get much information about candidates in odd-year elections. Where should I turn? Looking at endorsements on candidate websites is helpful, even in a non-partisan race. Using a trusted source like the Progressive Voters Guide is always recommended, too.
Local elections matter – a lot! How can you help Get Out The Vote? Joining a canvass and talking to voters at the doors in the next couple of weeks is a great way to see if this type of voter contact is your jam. The focus will be on reminding voters that ballots are out and need to be returned by Tuesday, August 5. Reach out to a candidate you support through their website and sign up to help – no experience talking to voters needed! And, if you want to be paired up with a canvassing buddy, just let them know that. They will be thrilled to have your help!
Want to help get out the vote but can’t knock on doors? King County Dems is putting together a text bank to activate voters. Please reach out to KC Dems Chair, Beth Bazley, at chair@kcdems.org for more information.

Good Trouble Lives On!
July 17 was the 5th anniversary of the death of John Lewis, the Congressman and civil rights icon who fought for justice, freedom, and democracy. To honor Rep. Lewis’s legacy and to carry forward his call for moral, non-violent resistance, we got into some very good trouble on July 17, along with communities across the whole country.
We partnered with our sister group, Indivisible Eastside, for a visibility action on the I-90 overpass at 17th Ave (SR 900) in Issaquah. Ninety-five people of all ages stood across the overpass with a giant banner in support of immigrants, American flags and signs. So many honks and thumbs up!
Afterward, about fifty people attended our watch party of the documentary film John Lewis: Good Trouble, and participated in an excellent discussion afterward about what is keeping us up at night and concrete ways we can make good trouble over it.
Thank you to everyone who attended! Good trouble does live on! If you weren’t able to join us, you can find the movie on multiple platforms.
Supporting Immigrants in this Moment
Immigrants in our neighborhoods and communities are living in fear of being abducted by masked men with unmarked vehicles. For good reason: Members in Issaquah and Sammamish have been abducted by masked men, taken away, and put on flights to – somewhere else…
Now, the Republican Big Bad Budget funds ICE at unprecedented levels so they can ramp up their inhumane and authoritarian tactics. But, we can push back.
Email Your City & King County Council Members to Stop Secret Police Tactics
We won’t have an opportunity to pass state legislation until 2026, but we can take action now to make a difference at the local level through city and county ordinances to Unmask ICE.
Use this link to reach out to your City & King County Council Members to ask them to ban the use of masks and anonymized uniforms for all state, local, and federal law enforcement operating during public enforcement and require visible identification and agency affiliation during any public interaction or arrest. Read more about safeguarding civil liberties from Indivisible National here.
Knowledge is Power
Aggressive immigration raids and abductions by masked men are intended to make us all feel powerless. The Northwest Immigrant Rights Project, a local non-profit, empowers us with knowledge. NWIRP defends and advances the rights of immigrants through direct legal services, systemic advocacy, and community education.
Join Northwest Immigrant Rights Project on Tuesday, July 22, to learn the latest updates on immigration. They’ll also offer brief training for service providers. The webinar will be held in two sessions – in Spanish: 12:00–12:45 pm / in English: 12:45–1:30 pm. Join the time that works best for your language needs. You will gain awareness, knowledge, and power that you can share with others.

Talk with a Friend
To rebuild a democratic, open society, winning elections will be critical. And, guess what: Ballots for the upcoming 2025 primary election were just mailed out! Research has shown that a one-on-one discussion with a friend is at least twice as effective as other methods of voter outreach. So, we’ve started our own Talk With A Friend Project.

News Boost Postcarding
We’re partnering with Progressive Turnout Project (the largest voter outreach organization in the country) to provide factual and useful news headlines to Dem-leaning voters in Virginia, a swing state where two important elections will be held later this year. We want to counter disinformation and make sure they learn how harmful the Trump/GOP agenda is for most Americans – and encourage them to vote.
