No Kings, No Iran War

The Cost of War

Captain Ariana G. Savino, 31, of Covington, was killed last week, along with five other crew members, when a military fueling plane crashed in Iraq. Capt. Savino had been awarded the Air Medal and Air and Space Commendation Medal during her years of service and training. Senators Murray and Cantwell and Rep. Schrier have all issued statements expressing their heartbreak and condolences to the families of the deceased. We would like to add our condolences as well.

Trump’s unauthorized war in Iran has already taken the lives of US servicemembers and at least 1,000 Iranian civilians. It has devolved into a larger regional conflict, with missile and drone strikes, military operations, and retaliatory attacks now wounding and killing civilians in countries across the Middle East.

Please, call Rep. Schrier today. Thank her for honoring the life and service of Captain Savino.  Please also urge Rep. Schrier not to agree to fund Donald Trump’s illegal, deadly war against Iran. The administration is expected to come asking Congress for more money for their war.  Americans might pay a high price for a forever war with their tax dollars, but some, like Captain Savino, pay an even higher one.

Support SB 5974: Law Enforcement Leadership Bill

One of the big wins this session was getting SB 5974 through the House and Senate. The bill updates and standardizes eligibility, accountability, and oversight of key local law enforcement leaders and related personnel in Washington, including sheriffs, police chiefs, marshals, volunteers, cadets, and specially commissioned officers.

It responds to outdated and inconsistent statutes governing law enforcement leadership, especially as concerns about untrained or uncertified volunteers and “constitutional sheriff” movements have grown in parts of the state and sets clear statewide standards to improve professionalism, public trust, and consistency in policing leadership.

It’s waiting for the governor’s signature now, but the sheriffs are pushing back hard and, he’s meeting with them on Monday. Please take this action to ask him to sign the FULL bill into law. Thank you!

2026 Coalition to Block ICE NIX Letter Sign-On

After the recent Wired article detailing ICE’s planned expansion across the US, local advocacy groups, including several Indivisible groups formed a Coalition to Block ICE expansion in Tukwila, one of the proposed expansion locations.

So far the group has held two peaceful protests at Sabey headquarters in Tukwila, the company that has recently leased new office space to ICE near King County Airport (Boeing Field) in addition to other existing leases with DHS.

The coalition’s next action is to start sending letters to landlords in SW King County who have space ICE might consider leading, asking them to commit to not signing any lease/purchase agreements with ICE/CPB/DHS.

WA-8 will be signing on to this letter as an organization, but the coalition is also looking for individual signers.

The link below contains the letter being sent to landlords as well as more information.
