Our Congress Members in DC Need to Hear from You!

First, the bad news: The Trump regime is not letting up on its horrifying effort to remake America in the image of Dear Leader. It continues to transform the Justice Department into a MAGA revenge machine; it keeps rounding up people and putting them in an expanding system of concentration camps without any regard to their constitutional rights; it persists in an unconstitutional war in the Middle East and threatens a new one against Cuba; it encourages corruption at the highest levels on an unprecedented scale; and it works hard to prevent those who have the least from obtaining food, health care, education and other necessities of life. The list goes on and on.
Now, the good news: Dear Leader and his crew are, without question, cunning, persistent and cruel. They are also singularly inept. Their policies, which predictably have made life in the United States less desirable and less affordable, are becoming increasingly unpopular, even among people who self-identify as Republican. For the very first time, we see the possibility of some real Republican opposition in Congress.
If we want Congressional pushback, it’s important that Republicans in Congress come to realize that the public wants and expects it. Although our members of Congress are Democrats, they do talk to their Republican colleagues about what they’re hearing from constituents. When constituents in large numbers communicate to their Democratic Members of Congress (MOCs) general public outrage at the regime’s actions, it not only encourages Democratic opposition, but that message filters through to Republican MOCs as well.
So, here are some easy but important things you can do this week to support Congressional opposition:
Contact Rep. Schrier about this important vote coming to the House this week! Call the Capitol switchboard at 202-224-3121 and ask to be connected with her office. Or, call her local office directly at (425) 657-1001, or use the email link below.
- Urge her to vote for H.Con.Res. 86, directing the President to remove U.S. armed forces from hostilities against Iran pursuant to the War Powers Act, when that Resolution comes to a vote this week in the U.S. House.
Contact our Senators and Rep. Schrier and share the three messages below. A call is best (call the Capitol switchboard at 202-224-3121 and ask to be connected with Rep. Schrier, Senator Murray or Senator Cantwell). You can find direct phone numbers here. You can email them instead, using the links below.
- Oppose the budget reconciliation bill by which the Trump regime seeks to add another $70 billion to fund its ICE and Border Patrol concentration camps and militarization effort (on top of the $170 billion appropriated in last year’s Big Ugly Bill at the expense of Medicaid and SNAP funding).
- Work to make sure that Congress passes legislation to prevent Trump’s illegal $1.8 billion slush fund.
Email the Senate about the “Slush Fund”
- Oppose Trump’s sanctions and fuel blockade that serve no purpose but to create misery among the Cuban people, and block any military action against that country:

Support the Spokane 3!
Last week, three Spokane protesters accused of conspiring against ICE and “using force, intimidation or threat” against federal agents were found guilty by a federal jury. The protest happened in Spokane last June, when ICE agents were transporting a group of detained immigrants to the Tacoma ICE center. One of the immigrants eventually self-deported. Another was released after a federal judge ruled the federal government had detained him illegally.
The verdict has brought on anger and heavy emotions. The evidence at trial showed that, while some protestors slashed tires of vans meant to transport the detained immigrants, the “Spokane 3”, Jac Archer, Justice Forral, and Bajun Mavalwalla II, were committed to nonviolence.
This case has been about more than individual defendants – a career DOJ prosecutor resigned rather than prosecute the case (despite orders from the Trump DOJ). Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown decried the prosecution as “politically motivated” and issued a statement after the verdict saying, “The right to peacefully protest and criticize the government is a cornerstone of our democracy. We cannot allow these verdicts to silence us.”
Civil rights in this country have been fought for and won through civil disobedience when the government is using the law to attack our First Amendment rights and suppress opposition. Indivisible supports peaceful, nonviolent action and the First Amendment right to peacefully protest. Participants at our demonstrations know this. We encourage everyone to stay grounded, care for one another, and move forward with clarity and compassion.
You can support the Spokane 3 and the right to peaceably protest by contributing to the appeals of their convictions and by amplifying support for them through social media. For information on how to help, click here:

Help Set Next Year’s Agenda In Olympia
The Advocacy Committee of the Washington State Democratic Party Central Committee creates an annual survey to collect data on the issues most important to people across the state. It uses the data from that survey to compile its legislative priorities, which in turn are used to advocate for those priorities in the state legislature, where Democrats have control of both chambers.
If you’d like to have input into next year’s legislative priorities, take just a few minutes and complete the 2027 legislative priorities survey:
